Farooq releases Darakshan’s ’Chaman Barg Rez’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 24: At a function held at Abhinav theatre here on Saturday, Union minister for new and renewable energy, Farooq Abdullah released Darakshan Andrabi’s latest poetry collection ’Chaman Barg Rez’. Minister for tourism and culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora, deputy chairman legislative council, Mohammed Yusuf Taing, media advisor to government, Farooq Nazki, commissioner secretary, tourism and culture and secretary Academy, Atal Dulloo and Academy’s additional secretary, Savita Bakshi were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Farooq said that by releasing Darakshan’s book Academy was discharging its constitutional obligation. Appreciating the role of Academy in promoting linguistic diversity of the state, the union minister said that Academy is a very important institution and has a pivotal role to play in promoting and propagating the sub linguistic identities of the state. Earlier in his welcome address, secretary Academy, Atal Dulloo said that the Academy was honoured to have dignitaries like the union minister for an event like today’s book release function. Commenting on the role of states writers in producing quality literature, Dulloo said that the literature of the state is one of the oldest in the sub continent and as a true representative of states literary traditions the Academy has been taking every possible step for its promotion and propagation. Later ghazal singer, Deepali Watal sang two ghazals of Darakshan in Kashmiri and Urdu. The impact of verses sung by Watal was such that the audience in the 600-seater hall, filled to capacity, greeted them with a thundering round of applause.
