World TB Day Sham calls for launching strong movement against TB

JAMMU, MARCH 24 – To commemorate World TB Day, the State TB Control Society in collaboration with Directorate of Health Services, Jammu today organized an awareness function in the Conference Hall of IIIM.
Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture Mr. Sham Lal Sharma was chief guest on the occasion.
Commissioner/Secretary Health and Medical Education (Chairman State TB Control Society), Mr. G.A. Peer, Principal GMC, Jammu, Dr. Rajinder Singh, Director Health Services, Dr.Madhu Khullar, Project Director J&K AIDS Control Society, Dr. Rakesh Khajuria, Director Family Welfare, Dr. T.K.Moza, Controller Drugs & Food Control Organization, Mr. Satish Gupta, State Tuberculosis Officer, Dr. Ved Sharma, Director Floriculture, Mr. K.K.Sharma, Director Horticulture, Mr. J.N.Sharma, large number of doctors, para-medics, ICDS officers, ASHA workers and media persons were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister stressed the need for launching a strong movement against TB with the active involvement of various stakeholders, adding that this disease is still cause of worry and, a large number of people, irrespective of caste, creed and color are suffering from it. He said awareness is key factor to eradicate this disease from the society and a mass awareness campaign throughout the year should continue through various mediums. He also called for collective efforts to fight against the TB like cancer and AIDS which are eliminating several patients in our country.
Appreciating the efforts of the State TB Control Society for minimizing the disease, the Minister emphasized the need for stepping up its vigil to make the society free from the disease. He also appealed the media to play their important role in creating awareness about such dreaded diseases amongst the common masses. He also sought support from the entire society to eradicate TB. He urged upon the ground level functionaries like ASHA workers, FMPHWs, Anganwari workers, ICDS functionaries to play a pivotal role for eradicating this TB. He said mal-nutrition is also one of the major causes of TB and ICDS has the mandate to do away this part and take care of the children by providing them supplementation of proper diet being provided by the Government.
Dr. Madhu Khullar and Dr. Ved Sharma also addressed the gathering and gave resume of the activities of State TB Control Society. They apprised that over 90 per cent physical as well as financial targets have been achieved in Jammu division.
