EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 24:
Lambasting the UPA government at Centre led by Dr Manmohan Singh, CPI (M) national general secretary, Parkash Karat today said that government led by Dr Manmohan Singh has totally failed in containing corruption, price rise, unemployment and maintaining the supply of fertilizers in the country.
Addressing a Party rally in front of Press Club here today, he said UPA Government, which will complete three years in office in May has created a record for the first time after independence in the country that prices of food items hiked by 10 percent.
There are apprehensions that the prices of petroleum products after Parliament’s budget Session is over on March 30 may also increase. Besides the prices of urea and fertilizers, which have doubled will be further increased, he added.
The CPI (M) leader said that his Party in J&K his Party is against those who are creating a gulf between the people on the name of region, religion and language.
Alleging that the UPA has been exposed and its real face has come before the public now, he said the Planning Commission announced that any one in India earning Rs 22 in rural areas will not be considered for BPL and likewise any one living in urban areas earning Rs 28 per day will also be not considered for the BPL category also.
This way the government is trying to deprive the poor people of BPL benefits and it is a big conspiracy, he said. In spite of giving subsidy to BPL people the government has given subsidy to multinationals and big business houses like Ambani and TATA who earn crores, he added.
These companies are giving land on cheaper rates after snatching the same from farmers and electricity on less rates but there is no subsidy for a person earning Rs 22 per day, he said.
The CPI (M) leader exhorted the people especially the working class to join hands and fight the Congress led UPA for its anti people policies. He also expressed grave concern over the increasing privatization and contractual system of working class.
He said the corruption will not end by bringing the Lok Paul only as there is an open loot of public money going on in the country. In this regard he cited the examples of 2 G, gas, coal and petrol scams. Till a broad policy is not framed this loot will not end, he added.
Accusing Dr Manmohan Singh led government of creating record of scams in the country, he said Left is of the view that nexus between government and multinationals should end.
He said there is no difference between Congress and BJP as the later is also involved in mining scam in Karnataka. There is a nexus between ministers in Karnataka Government and mine mafia.
He said Left is for a viable alternative to Congress BJP and not for just poll arrangements in elections.
CPI (M) state secretary M Y Tarigami, senior leader Comrade Saleem and Sham Kesar also addressed the rally.
