Karat raises pitch against corruption but silent on Cricket scam | | | early times report Jammu, Mar 25: CPM general secretary Parkash Karat, who had raised a pitch against corruption, is strangely not aware of the JJKCA cricketing scam , in which the name of former CM and union home minister has figured in. Two officer bearers of the Association were sacked in the scam which is alleged to be of Rs 50-cr. Parkash Karat had arrived in Jammu on two-day visit to attend 9th State level congress of the party. "I haven't gone through and wouldn't be able to comment on it," said Karat when asked to comment about the scam. The comments of the one the tallest leaders of the CPM, which though has lost steam to Mamta Banerjee, appear strange as the reports of the alleged scam was reported in every national paper and was widely debated in TV Channel, even in English, with which Karat is well-versed. A minute before evading this question, Karat in his lengthy speech, had accused UPA government of breaking all records on corruption. Interestingly,Dr Farooq , heading NC, is a member of the UPA. Karat by evading this question, has tried not to take on Dr Farooq, so as to shake the apple cart of Third Front, which the Left along with the regional parties is once again trying to make. Dr Farooq Abdullah had been in the forefront of anti-Cong groups and had hoisted a conclave of opposition parties at Srinagar in 1983. The second reason could be that Karat, deliberately tried to ignore the question, as lone CPM MLA MY Tarigami, enjoys the fruits of power, though being in opposition but not openly criticial of the government. Tarigami was vocal on this issue which was raised by PDP which had even moved an adjournment motion on this regard also. The issue was above petty politics and involved corruption which above party politics and is central narrative in middle class. By remaining silent on it, CPM had suggested that it will take on corruption when it suits it and will remain silent when it enjoys power or intend to enjoy it. This could cost Left dearely and Mamta has already proved it in W Bengal
