Is suspension of teachers a solution? | Poor performance by Govt schools | | Sumit Bhargav Rajouri, Mar 25 : During the recent past the government has taken action against teachers of such schools that did not perform well in the examinations. The teachers are placed under suspension. The punishment of teachers has evoked severe reaction with academicians and concerned citizens resenting the very idea of punishing the teachers. The teachers also have voiced their concern. "Give us the infrastructure and see the results", they have dared the authorities. According to reports, many government schools in Rajouri lack proper infrastructure. "The students have to sit in the open on ground. On rainy days, both the students and the teachers face problems", the report said. Govt Girls Model Hr Sec School situated in the heart of Rajouri town can be cited as an example of official neglect. The authorities are fully aware of the problems faced by the students and the teachers but nothing seems to move. Staff deficiency is another problem that adversely affects the performance of the schools. The Govt school Kallar functioned without an Urdu teacher. However, after repeated protests, a teacher has been sent there. The authorities, reports said, fail to check the attendance in the schools. It has been reliably learnt that in schools the teachers turn up. For example, a teacher turns up for a week and during the next week, he stays at home and another teacher does the school a favour by ensuring his presence. The army has provided computers and other teaching aids under Operation Sadhbhavna to some schools. But, due to lack of staff, these facilities have not contributed to the performance of the schools. |
