| Jewellers protest against excise duty hike | | | EARLY TIMES report
Reasi , Mar 25: A huge gathering of the members of Swarnkar Sangh dist. Reasi was held in a meeting at Hindu ashram under the presidentship of Vijay abrol wherein it was decided to continue the indefinite close down of shutters in tune with the call given by the All India Sarafa Association . There has been a widespread resentment among the Swarankar Sangh members over the increase of excise duty on gold jewelry and import duty on gold which will severely affect the shopkeepers and the customers as well. They demanded an immediate roll back of excise duty hike on gold and jewelry announced in the budget. They later took out a procession with the effigy of finance minister from chowk chabutra Reasi to tehsil office shouting slogans against the F M Pranab Mukherjee . They burnt the effigy of F M outside tehsil office.
Addressing on the occasion, Sorab Mengi said that the central government is not paying any heed towards their genuine demand , for which they were protesting for the past more than one week . He makes the general public aware about the bad implications of this hike on both customers and jewellers.
