Poor facilities add to players woes | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 26: Tall claims by Sports Minister, RS Chib of better playing facilities turned out to be big lie when female players of international repute were made to prepare the kabaddi field themselves before routine practice at Green Field ground, here today. In the absence of ground and other staff, the trainees of Green Field, the only playing facility in the posh locality of the city, were often seen doing the self service to make the fields ready for coaching sessions. While these senior kabaddi players, including those, who have represented the country at the international level, were busy at the specially created kabaddi field, other trainees of korfball and football were saving themselves from water logged in the field during warm-up sessions. This was the state of health of the Green Field ground which caters to more than four disciplines. "The ground staff is supposed to water the field during the day, but surprisingly, they does it in the evening thus making it difficult to move on," a player expressing his concern told reporters. So, how can a trainee give his/her best in practice when he or she has to first get the field ready that too on daily basis. \ When contacted Sports Officer of the State Sports Council, the care taker of the Green Fields ground, said, "We have five ground men at Green Field ground, Gandhi Nagar, who perform their duties under the guidance of a ground supervisor and assistant manager". |
