Social evils have affected Dalit Samaj: BJP | | | early times report JAMMU, Mar 26 - As a follow up of the last month's meeting meant to focus the government's and general public's attention towards the problems being faced by scheduled castes in the state and highlighting them through various means, a marathon meeting of prominent members of this community was held at Press Club, Jammu on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Shamsher Singh Manhas said that social evils have become more pronounced and acute in the modern times and have effected dalit samaj more severely. These downtrodden people had already been suffering centuries old curse of untouchability and social discrimination and with the deterioration in the moral and ethical fabric of the society, their condition has worsened. Nirmal Singh, in his address, said that SCs should not suffer from inferiority complex and consequent demoralization. The SCs have also produced great thinkers and intellectuals which can be a matter of pride to any society. He added that intellectualism and excellence is not the monopoly of any particular caste or faith. Jitendra Singh stated that the policy of reservation for the SCs was meant for their improvement, socially and economically, but has ultimately resulted in their exploitation for political considerations. |
