Opp in J-K alleges irregularity in grant of model villages | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 26 : Alleging discrimination in the grant of status of 'model villages' in Jammu and Kashmir, Opposition parties today staged a walk out from the state Assembly. PDP, BJP, JKNPP raised slogans and staged walkout from the House. Leader of the Opposition in J-K Legislative Assembly, Mehbooba Mufti raised the issue of discrimination and arbitrary grant of the 'model villages' by the coalition government. "Government was distributing these model villages between themselves without following the criteria," Mufti alleged. However, Minister of Rural Development Ali Mohmmad Sagar, said that it is being followed as per the norms and Opposition has a habits of making noises. As the Mufti, was asking a supplementary question to the minister about the mechanism adopted for the same in formulating the proposal, Speaker Mohmmad Akbar Lone asked her to sit down and did not allow her to continue. On this PDP members led by Mufti resorted to the protests over the Speaker's behaviour, and staged walkout from the house. "Our voice is being muzzled by the speaker. We are not granted time to speak and raise supplementary questions over the public issues," Mufti told reporters out side the Assembly. "There are scams after scams hitting Omar government-- JKCA, MGNREGA-- but we are being deliberately silenced by not allowing us to speak and raise the issue despite being the largest Opposition party in the state", Mufti said. Apart from the PDP members, Jugal Kishore and Garu Ram of BJP, Ashani Kumar of JSM also raised the issue along with the JKNPP. |
