| PDP stages 2 walk-outs in a row, accuses large scale bungling in MGNREGA | | Sofi lashes out at government for "looting" the state exchequer | | Bashir Assad
Jammu, Mar 26 : Opposition Peoples Democratic Party Monday accused the government for misappropriation of funds released under centrally sponsored MGNREGA scheme and staged two walk-outs from the J&K legislative assembly for not being allowed to raise the issues of public importance in the House. Trouble started when Speaker did not allow the members to ask supplementary on a question raised by MLA Chenani K C Bhagat which was pertaining to the power infrastructure damaged in his constituency with the plea that the QD was constituency-specific as such general supplementary questions cannot be asked on this question. However opposition members including Rafi Ahmad Mir, Ch. Zulfkar, Abdul Haq Khan and A R Veeri of PDP and members from BJP and Panthers Party wanted to ask supplementary questions pertaining to overall power scenario, however, Speaker did not permit them to do so which irked the opposition PDP. Leader of opposition Mehbooba Mufti who was present in the house tried to make ask question about the poor state of affairs as for HT/LT networking was concerned, Speaker, however, intervened and said, " I have to go by the contents of the Question which is constituency specific". Speaker directed the Rural Development Minister Ali Muhammad Sagar to readout the written reply to the next listed question of Rafi Ahmad Mir pertaining to District Development Board decisions. However, Sagar was in a fix for a moment whether to readout the written reply amid din or not. On this Speaker asked Sagar tp carry on his reply to the question without paying any heed to the opposition members who had by then assembled near well of the house. " Carry on don't give any attention to them" Speaker told Sagar, however PDP members staged walk-out in protest and Rafi Mir had to leave the house without discussing his question. However, PDP legislators soon joined returned as two important QDs of A R Veeri and Abdul Gafar Sofi related to funds allocated under MGNREGA to the state during 2011-12.
Not satisfied by the reply A R Veeri and Abdul Gafar Sofi alleged misappropriation of funds under the scheme. However, Rural Development Minister Ali Muhammad Sagar lashed at Veeri accusing him of trying to impress his MLAs. Irked by the comment of the minister PDP MLAs were on their legs to protest and soon the situation took ugly turn when Abdul Gafar Sofi whose QD was clubbed with AR Veeri's, was not allowed to ask supplementary question. "Minister gave reply to your question, you might have not heard because of the uproar" Speaker told Sofi.
On this Sofi lost his cool and in a scathing attack on Rural Development Minister alleged that the public money was being looted by the department and when opposition wants to draw attention of the house, they are not allowed. "loot machaya hai aapne wahan per, sharm nahi aati hai tum logon ko aur jab hum nishandehi karna chahtey hein to haemin bolne nahi diya jata hai" shouted Sofi while marching towards the well of the house along with other PDP members including their president Mehbooba Mufti and Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari. Sofi, for a while shouted near the well and latter all the PDP members staged second walk-out from the house in protest. |
