NEHA
JAMMU, Mar 25: JKNPP MLA from Ramnagar, was extremely angry with the NC-Congress coalition government on Thursday (Mar 22). The reason: The Industry Department in a written reply made in response to cut motions moved in the Legislative Assembly described Jammu and Kashmir Government as "Kashmir Government".
Taking on the concerned ministry, he said, "the phraseology used in the Assembly reply was indicative of highly prejudicial, offensive and parochial mindset of rulers who had sought to undermine the very identity and existence of Dogra land" and added that the "current episode indicated that the government was not only discriminating with Jammu province in matters relating to allocation of funds and job opportunities but had also demonstrated the bias of the ruling class towards the identity of the Jammu province and sensitivities of its people".
The JKNPP MLA did not stop just there. He went on to say that the people of Jammu province and Kashmir "want to live like brothers with equal rights but the vested political interests have always devised ways and means to create wedge between them through their evil designs" and charged the NC-Congress coalition government with perpetrating humiliation after humiliation on the people of Jammu province. The "coalition government has always outraged the sentiments of the people of Dogra Land," he said. Besides, he took on the state government for naming the government services as Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS), Kashmir Civil Services (KCS) and Kashmir Police Services, as against JKAS, JKCS, and JKPS.
He not only criticised the ruling coalition for its attempt at undermining the identity and personality of what he termed as Dogra Land and its people but also lambasted it for giving a raw deal to them.
To make his point he referred to the meager amount that was allocated to Jammu province for the revival of sick Industrial units and urged the state government to compensate Jammu region.
His concrete suggestion was that the latest package announced by the Union Finance Minister for the promotion of industries in the state and creation of job opportunities should be used in such a way that the Jammu province is compensated to some extent.
Other demands, all well meaning, made by the angry MLA on the floor of the Assembly included setting up of new industrial states in Jammu province; promotion of small-scale industries, handicrafts and handlooms; special schemes and incentives aimed at promoting pasmina shawls, silk products and Basholi paints; 90 per cent of the total working force in the big corporate houses and industries established in various parts of the state, including Samba, Bari Brahmana, Vijaypur, be reserved for the local youth as per the agreement reached with them under the Industrial Policy of 2004.
The new industrial policy had been introduced by the PDP-led coalition government. His was a very effective intervention, which suggested that he had gone to the Assembly well-prepared. (To be continued)
