‘NC divided people on ethnic lines’ | | | Early Times Report JAJJARKOTLI, Mar 26: Continuing his tirade against National Conference, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today regretted that the present regime headed by Omar Abdullah had failed to carry forward the agenda of peace and development in the State. He said that due to its misdeeds and failure to connect with masses, this regime has lost moral authority to govern. Addressing a one day convention of the party card holders of Nagrota assembly segment at Jajjarkotli, Sayeed said that the PDP had pioneered the agenda of peace and development in the State to establish sustainable peace in this region. "The agenda pioneered and pursued by the PDP had given encouraging result after 2002", he observed. He added that the incumbent government headed by Omar Abdullah had miserably failed to carry forward this agenda. "What to say of initiating any further Confidence Building Measure (CBM), this even failed to carry forward the pro-peace agenda of previous regime", he remarked and reiterated that her party would aggressively pursue its pro-peace agenda. "The process of reconciliation and to change destiny of the people is still incomplete because the present regime during the last three years has failed to connect itself with the common masses", he said. Listing achievements of PDP led regime in the state, he said "our party has not only restored peace in the state but also laid strong foundation for accelerating developmental activities in all regions and sub-regions". He said that it was only during the regime of PDP that equal treatment was given to all regions of the state. He said that biggest achievement of the previous regime was creating conducive atmosphere for initiating peace process and taking Confidence Building Measures. Making a mention of opening of points on Line of Control and cross LoC trade, he said these historical steps were foundations for developing this region as free economic zone. He pointed out that peace prevailing all along the borders from Kathua to Kargil was result of the re-conciliatory policies and peace initiatives taken during the PDP-Congress regime. Speaking on the occasion, former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beig cautioned the people against nefarious designs of ruling National Conference, which, according to him, has always divided people for power. "National Conference has always adopted divide and rule policy in the State", he observed. He said that it was PDP that has tried to bridge the gap between different regions and sub-regions. "Our politics is not for attain power. Aim of our party is to establish lasting peace in this region and to restore dignity and honour of the people of all regions and sub-regions", he said and reminded the gathering that during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed all regions of state were treated equally. "I can say with full confidence that it was only during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that every sections of the society were empowered", he said and sought cooperation of the people to strengthen PDP in Jammu region also. TS Bajwa, Thakur Balbir Singh, Abdul Gaffar Sofi, Ved Mahajan, Nizamud Din Khatana, Rashid Malik, Hussain Ali Bafa, RK Bali, Kuldeep Sharma, Rashpal Bittu, Sarpanch, Choudhary Ahasan, Balwan Singh, Sukhdev Sharma, Partap Sharma, Chander Mohan, Shak Mohammed, Showkat Gujjar, BD Baru and others also spoke on the occasion. |
