Early Times Report

Srinagar, Mar.27 : A month-old baby girl, who was found abandoned in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama District, is now stable but has no claimants so far.
According to media reports, police recovered the baby girl from a nursing supervisor and her son on March 22.
The baby was then admitted to the G B Pant Cantonment hospital in Srinagar.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the Deputy Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Doctor Tejinder Singh, said the baby girl was suffering with mild jaundice and hypothermia, but has been responding well to treatment.
He said no one has come forward to accept the infant.
"A baby was found unclaimed and was admitted to the hospital. The baby had hypothermia and mild jaundice. She was put on the warmer after the treatment began. The infant is now quite stable. The doctors and nurses are taking good care of the baby. As you saw, the baby has shown signs of improvement but till now no one has come forward to claim her," said Singh.
Singh said that he had witnessed many such unfortunate cases while at work, and added that the doctors acted according to the instructions of the courts in such matters.
"It's difficult to give the exact numbers, but since I have been in this hospital I have seen many such cases. We have always worked on the directives of the court. Whoever has come with the papers of the baby has been recognized as the claimant," said Singh.
Singh added that many hopeful parents had turned up to the hospital to take the custody of the baby girl, but the hospital officials advised them to approach the judiciary.
