Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 27 : A day after separatist conglomerate Tehreek-e-Hurriyat's chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani was heckled at a public function in Delhi, students of Kashmir University took out a protest rally on the campus against the perpetrators and in favour of the separatist leader on Tuesday. "This is a heinous and condemnable act.
We are up against an intolerant India. This is no bravery to hit an 82-year-old man espousing the cause of the state," said a student on the condition of anonymity, fearing action from the police.Dozens of students from several departments assembled in the varsity and raised pro-Geelani slogans.
"We students are behind him and no one should dare to insult him. It was a coward and shameful act," said another students.
Later, Geelani addressed the students on phone from New Delhi. "I have been receiving continuous calls from Kashmir, Jammu, Azad Kashmir (Pakistan occupied Kashmir) Kashmir and Pakistan.
Such acts cannot cow down a just and genuine struggle," said Geelani while thanking the students for the support. Geelani appealed to the students to make boycott of the upcoming municipal polls in the state a success.
The students held a sit-in in his support and erected banners on the campus. After Geelani's speech, the students dispersed peacefully.
Activists of right-wing Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena (BSKS) and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had assaulted 82-year-old separatist leader on Monday in New Delhi.
Police sources said they were expecting protests as angry posts flooded the social networking sites on Monday night calling for revenge, mainly on webpages set up by stone throwers and 2010 protesters.
"Since they think that everyone outside their groupings - with abbreviated names such as BSKS and all - is a traitor, this league of extraordinary idiots is forever busy deciding upon the next gate-crash for their moment of glory.
Over an endless diet of cheap Samosas, they have pledged to salvage Kashmir for India. Once the act is performed, some doucebag is send rushing to Bittu's net café to upload the day's exploits. Democracy's trolls," wrote Sameer Bhat, a widely read blogger from Kashmir based in Dubai. The blog is rage on socialnetwokring sites.
