BJP unlikely to repeat 2005 'performance' in Municipal polls | PDP main threat to party prospects ……? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 27: NC led coalition government may or may not be able to fulfil its commitment of holding Local Bodies polls in the state within the period it has envisaged the overdue exercise to be completed, its frequent reiteration and reaffirming tone on this front have only set the ball of political parties moving into a spate of activities aimed to generate the momentum. While coalition allies are trying to put the cadres in that mode of preparedness, opposition PDP and BJP have begun their 'campaign' ahead of any formal announcement or schedule. BJP may well started off on an enthusiastic note but is that zeal well founded or speaks of complacency of 2005 wonder which created history for the party by bagging sizable number of seats in the Jammu Municipal Corporation. Taking government's word and commitment as final the BJP state unit has certainly started holding regular meetings at the ward levels and taking stock of the party position at the ground level. But these are not considered enough by the political observers in the wake of changed ground realities for the party as also in the wake of stepped up rather augmented efforts of other parties which may pose as real to prospects of the BJP this time. In other words it is not the traditional rival Congress this time instead PDP which is eating into political vitals and space of the BJP with ease and comfort. PDP is all set to give a tough time to BJP during the course of Municipal Elections. PDP has been continuing with a spree of public meetings rallies in various wards of Jammu which are apparently aimed at giving boost to cadres for upcoming Municipal polls. What is interesting to note is that PDP high command including father daughter duo Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti who take the lead in such rallies .Not only this, they have demonstrated seriousness for the polls by making announcement of candidates in a number of wards which will surely pave way for strengthening and preparing ground much earlier for both the party as well as the candidates by building constant rapport with masses whose votes matter in that particular ward. BJP is surprisingly still under the euphoria of 2005 and perhaps thinking on the lines that it would be able to recreate that 'magic' and emerge as largest party in so far as the number of seats in a house of 75 members is concerned. But present political equations and the ground realities for all parties have completely changed. It is for the party leadership to understand and analyse that in realistic perspective. |
