3/28/2012 12:15:54 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 27: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti today fired salvo of aces against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and said his government is identified only with crime, corruption and Institutional erosion. She also warned the government of full scale agitation incase 5000 cases against stone pelters were not withdrawn. PDP president took out sheen out of the hot arguments by relying on hard facts, figures and logic and not resorting to political rhetoric.
Participating in discussion on grants of the departments under Chief Minister, PDP president in a scathing attack on National Conference-Congress Coalition government hit out at coalition and NC in particular contending it had become synonymous with crime and corruption.
Mehbooba said that that crime graph in Jammu region was on rise due to nexus between politicians and criminals. "You have taken action against some criminals but we have information that actions were taken only to grab business of these arrested persons by some persons closed to you", she told the Chief Minister. She further added that PDP president said some criminals have been send to jail but there business has been taken over by the people close to CM.
She lamented that institutions like State Accountability Commission (SAC) have been weaken by the government itself by approaching the Court of Law against various actions taken by the SAC. "Even Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has himself approached the Court of Law against directions passed by the SAC which is really a very bad and serious development", she observed. PDP president said some criminals have been send to jail but there business has been taken over by the people close to CM.
Omar in most likelihood not answer it, claiming that it's too vague an allegation, but the fact is out in public that a person called Man-Friday of Omar is controlling business of criminals in jail. "Yahan toh kuch pathar marnewalon ko kursi mil gaye" she said.
Mehbooba said in an apparent reference to the stay on proceedings against Chief minister in the case of appointment of advisors to him. " There is a revelation that about 5 Crores were received by Haji Yusuf as political kick-back from a number of NC activists, 40 lakh from a person hailing from Dooru, 20 Lakh from Achabal, 35 Lakh from Kokernag, 85 Lakh from Ganderbal person whom you paid back the amount, where did this amount go when the facts remains you valuated the property of Haji Yusuf scrutinized his back accounts and found nothing" Mehbooba said adding that last words of Haji Yusuf "let Dr. Farooq Sahib come" is the answer to all the questions.
Mehbooba alleged that the government had promoted a culture of impunity in the state through its inaction and incompetence. "Be it instances of gross corruption and malpractices by ministers and officials or crimes like the killing of Haji Yusuf, this government has adopted a standard practice of announcing meaningless probes to tame the gullible people" she said. "No probe has been taken to its logical conclusion but this attitude has resulted in serious erosion of credibility of all institutions of the state and Omar Abdullah for sheer lust of power is inflicting incalculable damage to the long term interests of people", she said.
About multi-crore Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association Scam, Mehbooba said that there were solid evidences about the direct involvement of Dr. Farooq Abdullah in financial irregularities in the association and by not allowing the opposition to raise this issue in the state assembly , government was doing no good to the people. " There is a scam in JKCA, ministers are facing charges of corruption, the government was misappropriating the public money, these are the facts and no body can challenge these facts. Another ace served by Mufit was about re-employment . The government's own admission make is clear even plumber and junior officers have been re-employed. A stunning example is Farooq Nazki, media officer to the CM.
70-yr-old is drawing a hansom salary of Rs 50,000, his work profile is not known and just downloads news items, including inauguration by the CM, and marks them to officers who routinely put them in the place they deserve: dustbin.
Mehbooba alleged that there was no transparency in the system and that corruption, crime backdoor appointments were the salient features of Omar Abdullah led coalition government. "Can you contest that in Housing and Urban Development Department, huge number of backdoor appointments have been effected since last three years and to cover up, a standard practice of dislocation has been adopted.
"People appointed or engaged through backdoor from Jammu city are shifted to
Akhnoor and vice-versa to cover up the fraud" alleged Mehbooba. In an assiduous attack on Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba said that he has been all helpful to his friends and for that he would go to any extant. " You took action against one person and send him to jail only because your friend wanted to enter into his business " Mehbooba lashed and said that a scandalous person Nihal Garware is on Board of Directors of J&K Bank because he is very close to Chief Minister. Mehbooba alleged norms and guidelines are flayed while implementing the developmental schemes. There is no criteria for sanction and development of Model Villages on one hand and on the other hand NC led government has altered the basic purpose of MGNREGA which according to PDP president is allotting the works under the scheme to NC contractors while the real beneficiaries, the job card holders are denied the opportunity.
On Anna Hazare's crusade against corruption, Mehbooba said," We should have been the face against corruption but unfortunately it is not like that, I salute Anna Hazare for starting a crusade against corruption despite being at this state of age and immaterial of his interests.
Hitting hard at Chief Minister, Mehbooba said that Omar Abdullah was habitual of contradicting his own statements on Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and now has become an advocate of NCTC despite the fact that many states have already opposed the proposal. "Isn't this double speak on part of Chief Minister he has supported the NCTC while on the other hand he has been talking about the phased withdrawal of AFSPA, is this your autonomy that you are surrendering each and every thing for lust of power" Mehbooba said.
Mahbooba threatened agitation in case the cases against 5 thousand youth involved in stone pelting were not withdrawn. "You have been making commitment since last one year that all FIRs against the youth involved in stone pelting will be withdrawn but on the other you continue to implicate them falsely" Mehbooba said adding that PDP will launch a massive agitation if the FIRs are not withdrawn forthwith. "We are not afraid that you will plead before Delhi that PDP was anti-national and I assure you we will launch a massive agitation if the cases against the youth are not withdrawn.
