HUJI commander, accomplice escape from police custody | | | early times reprot JAMMU, Mar 28: A top HUJI commander and his unidentified accomplice were said to have escaped from police custody at Patnitop while they were being shifted from Udhampur jail to Kishtwar in connection with their court hearing. The HUJI commander was identified as Sher Khan of Chatroo, Kishtwar. According to police sources, Sher Khan and his accomplice were being shifted from Udhampur jail to Kishtwar for a court hearing when they escaped from police custody at Patnitop. Sher Khan was allegedly involved in many killings in Kishtwar district. He remained active in Chatroo area before he along with his six accomplices surrendered before army in Anantnag in 2008. Soon after their alleged escape, security was stepped up on the highway to capture him. Senior police officers were tight lipped over the incident. "We are verifying reports about the HUJI commander's escape from police custody," said a senior police officer.
