Sikhs stage protest demand amnesty for 'Rajoana'

JAMMU, Mar 28: Various Sikh organizations jointly staged a protest here on Wednesday outside the Press Club Jammu and urged the Punjab and central government to repeal the death sentence awarded to Balwant Singh Rajoana, a co-accused in the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh on August 31,1995.
Both men and women were seen clad in saffron coloured clothes as they expressed their anger against the death penalty that was awarded to Rajoana.
Expressing solidarity with Sikhs in Punjab who have joined the cause of saving the life of Rajoana,, the Sikhs in Jammu protested today raising slogans demanding clemency for the killer of Chief Minister of Punjab Beant Singh.
Meanwhile in hundreds of members of the Sikh community, including women, today came out on the streets and block Rajbagh National Highway in Kathua staged a demonstration against the verdict announcing death sentence to former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh's assassin Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana.
Led by President Rajbagh Gurdwara Capt S Rajinder Singh and others executive members of Gurdwara , Sarpanch S. Rash pal Singh, protestors also staged a sit in protest on the Jammu Pathankot Highway.
"Culprits of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots are roaming free, they said and alleged that the hanging of Balwant Singh is being hastened.
They urged the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to take up the matter with the President.
Yet in similar protest National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) held a strong Protest demonstration at GGM science college, Jammu demanding amnesty to Balwant Singh Rajoana,
Led by Luckey Singh and Yogesh Talwar (Sr. NPSU leader) students gathered at the Shahedi Sthal outside the college and demanded amnesty to Balwant Singh Rajoana, They urged President Pratibha Devisingh Patil to grant general amnesty to Rajoana. NPSU leaders were present Prince Sharma, S Manmeet Singh, S Sarvjeet Singh , S J.P Singh, S Bunty Singh, S Jasvinder Singh, S Satinder Pal Singh, S Rajnesh Singh, Rohit Kumar etc
