JAMMU, Mar 29: Agitating and protesting since past four days in support of their demands which include implementation of Sixth Pay Commission in toto and release of the salary arrears due to the Sixth Pay Commission, by the state government, the teachers of Jammu University today took out a protest rally in the University campus here this afternoon.
The majority of the Jammu University teachers under the banner of Jammu University Teachers' Association (JUTA) came out of their respective departments and participated in the rally. While demanding the release of their arrears and implementation of the Pay Commission, the teachers raised slogans in support of their demands. The entire campus reverberated with the slogans of the teachers and the entire classroom activity remained suspended. Led by the JUTA president Prof Dalip Singh Jamwal and his team including Dr Kavita Suri, Vice President, Dr. Lalitsen Sharma, General Secretary, Dr Madhulika, treasurer, the teachers covered the entire University campus. Holding placards and banners like "JUTA wants Justice", "Apna Haq Lekar Rahege," "Civil Society - Hath Milao, Saath Mein Aao," etc, the teachers said they will not stop unless their demands are met. Addressing the media persons, Prof Dalip Singh Jamwal, president JUTA said that they had been protesting peacefully in the University since past four days against the non-implementation of the full package of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations which is mandatory for the reimbursement of 80 percent of the arrears from the Ministry of HRD. But sadly, the state government is not paying any heed to their genuine demand.
"Despite the fact that we met the chief minister, higher education minister, finance minister in the past two weeks regarding this issue, nothing was done and the result is that we were forced to adopt the agitational path," said Prof Jamwal.
