Erosion in BJP may benefit Cong, NC in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 29: After the State Legislative Assembly Speaker, Mohd Akbar Lone, rejected the plea for treating the suspension of seven BJP MLAs from the party as split in the organisation the fate of the BJP continues to hang in the balance. A senior leader belonging to the camp of loyalists held the National Conference and the Congress responsible for prolonging difficulties for the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir by not persuading the Speaker to accept the recommendations of Jugal Kishore, leader of the BJP, for disqualifying the seven MLAs from the membership of the House. He said that as long as the BJP continues to be sandwiched between the dissidents and the loyalists, the Congress and the National Conference could attempt at securing political advantage. He said that by winning as many as 11 Assembly seats in the 2008 elections the BJP had posed a major challenge for the Congress and the NC. Hence the leaders of the two organisations were trying to delay disqualification of the suspended BJP MLAs. However, the BJP dissidents said that the "so called" loyalists were trying to thrust a decision on the Assembly Speaker which was undemocratic. One of the leaders belonging to the dissident camp said that since the Speaker had not been able to find out whether the seven MLAs, who had been suspended from the party on charge of indulging in cross voting during the April last legislative council election, were really "unclean" and the four who had not been touched by the party high command as "clean" it was not possible for him to take a hasty decision. He said by adopting rigid attitude towards "us" the party high command has already damaged the roots of the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. He said in view of the growing anti-national sentiments it was mandatory for the party high command to strengthen the BJP which has the potential to fight against fissiparous and separatist elements in the state and that can be done by taking back all the seven MLAs who have been suspended from the party. |
