BJP rakes up discrimination issue in Assembly | Walkout over model villages, sub standard fertilizers | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 29: BJP raked up the issue of discrimination in the Legislative Assembly today in a loud manner over Model villages and its disproportionate distribution in Jammu region in comparison to Kashmir. The party members alleged ruling allies had grabbed lions share in this and the constituencies of members in opposition were left high and dry where as no villages are being adopted under this pattern. Alleging discrimination in distribution of Model Villages in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP members echoed concern over the issue, raised slogans of discrimination and later staged walkout from Legislative Assembly in protest. Alleging that ministers and MLAs in ruling alliances were taking major share of benefits in this sphere as well, they demanded probe in the entire allotment mechanism. BJP members led by Jugal Kishore stood up from their seats and vehemently raised the matter seeking attention of government towards their allegations. Jugal Kishore raised the pitch of his voice and alleged discrimination in allotment of model villages to their constituencies in Jammu region. "The villages have been distributed by the Ministers among themselves in their own constituencies……it reflects total discrimination and bias with members in opposition …" he said adding that , very few members of opposition have got any village under the model village concept, wherein facilities and infrastructure are ensured on fast track and in most modernized manner. The members demanded probe and insisted on reply from the government. While uproar over the issue continued for some time, MLAs came near the Well of the House, stood there for some time , shouted anti-government slogans against the alleged discrimination . However, there was no response from the government, following which all the four BJP members staged walkout from the House. Earlier, Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohmmad Sagar informed the House that 11 model villages have been taken up for development under the state cluster programme. Meanwhile, soon after the House assembled for proceedings, BJP MLA, Sukhnandan holding a bag in his hand came to well alleging that farmers in Jammu region are being given sub-standard seeds and fertilizers. In order to substantiate his claims he had brought the specimen of substandard fertilizers to the House. Sukhnandan alleged that despite repeated pleas to the Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir and other officials of the Agriculture department, no step have been taken to check this menace. Raking up the voice in aloud manner he shouted slogans like " Jammu virodhi sarkar ….kisan virodhi sarkar… ….and the sloganeering continued for some time."We are playing with the life of our farmers, who are dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. Speaker Sir, we demand justice from the government", he said. He further alleged the government was deliberately discouraging the farmers of the Jammu region. " We will not tolerate this discriminatory policy of the government,… …it substantiates what we have been saying continuously ….." shouted Sukhnandan. He was also supported by other members of party, who too joined the chorus on discrimination , alleging that present coalition is following anti-farmer policies. While waving the bag of fertilizers , the members alleged farmers from Jammu areas are facing huge loss due to distribution of sub-standard seeds and pesticides, but no check is being maintained on the companies who are dumping their material in the state. |
