Omar promises revocation of AFSPA from J-K after army chief retires | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 29 : Ridiculing the army chief V K singh for getting caught up in the controversy, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told reporters that Armed Forces Special Powers Act will go from Jammu and Kashmir after the army chief's issues are over. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of Tulip garden here , Omar Abdullah said that he is hopeful that the AFSPA would go after the army surrounded by the controversies end., chief minister Omar Abdullah said that his government wanted to revoke AFSPA partially from the state last year but army raised its concern . now they are caught up in their own issues ."We will start revocation of the special powers Act from some areas this year only," CM Omar said. However, chief minister Omar said the revocation of AFSPA was not political issue but it was based on logic and law. Omar blamed army for dragging feet when we tried to discuss the issue with them last year. Importantly, army chief general V K singh opposed the withdrawal of the armed forces special powers Act from jammu and Kashmir given the continuous attempts of infiltration of armed militants from across POK. Earlier chief minister while announcing the Tulip garden open, said that he expects huge tourist arrival this year. He said the Kashmir valley recorded arrivals of 13 lakh tourist last year and we expect much larger number this year, he added. CM Omar Abdullah released two special postal covers on Tulip Garden during the inauguration of Tulip Garden in Srinagar today. John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle presented two Special Covers to Hon'ble Chief Minister for release. This is the first time the Department of Posts brings out postal covers on Tulip Garden. One of the special cover displays a full view of the Tulip garden while the second cover displays a single tulip bulb. Earlier the postal Department brought out special covers on various tourist themes of J&K specially on Mugal Gardens, Royal Golf Course, Dal Lake, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Flora and Fauna of J&K etc. These Posta Covers are very popular among tourists and philatelists. The chief postmaster general John Samuel said that 48 special covers on J&K State have been brought out during the last year focusing on tourism and culture. |
