2 escaped HUJI ultras held after 24-hr-long operation | | | Early Times Report jammu, Mar 29: The two top HUJI commanders, who had yesterday escaped from police custody Patnitop area of Batote, were this evening apprehended by police from the forests. HUJI commanders -- Dulla Gujjar alias Sher Khan, son of Nabi Baksh of Sigdi Bhata and Jameel Abbas alias Abdullah, son of Ghulam Bakkarwal of Kansar, Reasi -- had escaped from police custody while they were being brought to Udhampur jail to Kishtwar. IGP (Jammu zone) Dilbag Singh told a press conference that the two militants had pretended to be suffering from diarrhoea and raised a massive a hue and cry for the escort vehicle to be stopped to attend the natural call. However, taking advantage of darkness, they slipped out of the custody of the guards, he informed. Soon thereafter, police parties of Ramban, Doda and Udhampur districts were alerted and massive combing operations were launched in the nearby forests. The IGP said while the Ramban police party was led by SP Anil Mangotra, SP Arif Rishu led the Doda police. Udhampur police was led by SHO of Kud police station. A CRPF company located at Batote also joined the search parties with their sniffer dogs which played a crucial role in giving leads to the whereabouts of the escaped militants, he added. He said police achieved the success at about 4 pm when both the militants were apprehended after a hot chase within 24 hours of their escape. While Sher Khan was caught from Ansi Top forests, Jameel was apprehended from Hardoon Top forest area of Doda, he informed. The IGP said their escape had become a major source of worry for police as it was suspected that they might cause harm to major prosecution witnesses. Sher Khan is involved in 13 murder cases and Jameel in 11 cases. The former had surrendered before Anantnag police and 36 RR on November 22, 2007, along with his six other associates. Jameel was arrested by Kishtwar police on February 2, 2009. He was involved in murder of Lt Col Ajay Verma (32), commanding officer of 118 RCC GREF, on June 13, 2008, near Watsar Chhatroo. Police were interrogating them to ascertain whether there was any connivance of the police escort in their escape |
