Consensus eludes between Cong, NC over 'Autonomy' issue | CSC likely to seek extension for three months | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 29: The cabinet Sub-Committee for examining the report of Justice Saghir Ahmad Working Group on strengthening Centre state relations is likely to seek extension for three more months as consensus eludes over ruling allies Congress and National Conference over the issue of Autonomy, the main component that has been touched upon in the report submitted by the fifth Working Group. Sources said even as the meeting of cabinet sub committee of which AR Rather is Chairman held its meeting today, but it could not deliberate further nor beyond what the members have already discussed over the issue in earlier meetings. The meeting was skipped today by three senior members Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma, Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar and PHE Minister Taj Mohiduddin. However, other four members including the Minister for Tourism, Rigzin Jora, Minister for Industries & Commerce, Mr. S. S. Slathia, Minister for Revenue and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla, Minister for CAPD, Qamar Ali Akhnoon, and Secretary to Government, Law Department, G.H. Tantray attended the meeting. Sources said Congress members have conveyed it to ally NC that it was not possible to agree to the Autonomy aspect mentioned mainly in the report. As the consensus eludes, the Cabinet sub committee is not able to frame any recommendations and therefore seeking more time for formulating the same. The cabinet sub committee deliberates upon the constitutional, legal and Political ramifications of the recommendations of Justice Sagheer led working Group on Centre-State relations held its 6th meeting here today under the Chairmanship of the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather. The Sub-Committee had earlier also discussed the recommendations in its meetings held on January 28th, 2011 and June 1st , 2011, August 8th, 2011, December 27th ,2011 and February 17th, 2012. The Justice Sagheer led Working Group is the V working group constituted by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh to address various dimensions of Center-State relations. |
