| Coal workers' hunger strike enters into 4th day | | 10 protesters critical, 2 shifted to hospital | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Mar 30: The ongoing hunger strike of coal mine workers of Kalakote coal mines Rajouri entered into fourth day today. The situation at the venue of the protest became tense when situation of nearly ten of these coal workers got critical due to continuous starvation of four days. Two of these workers have also been shifted to sub-district hospital Nowshera for proper treatment and to prevent things from going worse. Yesterday also these workers created a chaotic situation for authorities as they took hostage some officials of coal mine. It is pertinent to mention here that with some of their demands workers of coal mines situated in Kalakote Mogla Teryath area are sitting on hunger stir and have declared to carry on their strike till their demands are fulfilled. Some of their demands include implementation of sixth pay commission, fixing minimum salary rate for mine workers, immediate regularisation etc. When contacted, Sub-District Magistrate (SDM) Nowshera said that local authorities are highlighting the demands of these coal mine workers with their higher authorities and is also trying to resolve the issue by talking with them. He further said that about a couple of months back these coal mine workers held a similar type of protest which was resolved by local administration by holding talks with then. |
