Uproar over desecration of state flag
Speaker asks government to act
1/24/2007 11:11:07 PM
Jammu, Jan 24
Main Opposition National Conference Members today criticized government for not taking serious note of the ‘repeated desecration’ of state flag by Bhartiya Janta Party president.
The issue was raised by Dr Mehboob Beg after the commencement of Question Hour who said “that the issue was raised by him in the House following which the chair has asked the government to look into the matter” adding “however nothing has been done till now and a particular section of the society has continued its tirade against the state flag “.
Expressing his dismay over government’s silence on the matter, opposition Leader A R Rather said the BJP president in a press conference has said that his party has never recognized the state flag and challenged the Government to take action against him.
Rather said that first of all people should know that the flag with a plough inscribed on it is state flag and no that of National Conference. He said by dishonoring the state flag they are breaching the authority of state constitution.
Alleging government of observing silence over the matter, Ali Mohammad Sagar said that by sleeping over the issue government is becoming a party in the act of desecration” he said the BJP party president is repeatedly dishonoring the state flag which calls for a strict action against him.
Taking a serious note, Speaker Tara Chand observed that it is a matter of deep concern for the entire state and not of a particular party or region and asked the Government to take action against the person as required under Law.
