Colourful Jhankies Mesmerize City of Temples | Thousands throng temples to pay obeisance | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 31: Like other parts of the country, Ramnavmi-the birthday of Lord Shri Rama, was celebrated here with religious fervour and gaiety. The city of temples wore a festive look as the entire city was well decorated with saffron flags, buntings and banners on this auspicious occasion. An impressive Ramnavmi procession (Shobha Yatra) was taken out in the walled city in which thousands of devotees participated. The procession started from Shri Raghunath Mandir and culminated at Hari Market after passing through the main bazars and localities of the city. The procession passed through Raghunath Bazar, Kanak Mandi, Rajinder Bazar, Lakhdhata Bazar, Jain Bazar, Pirmitha, Pucca Danga, Moti Bazar, Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi and City Chowk. The route of yatra from Raghunath Mandir to Hari Market was well decorated. Stalls of fruits and sweets were installed at various places to distribute parshad among the participants of the yatra. The Shobha yatra accorded rousing reception at several places. Besides distributing fruits and sweets, people threw flower petals on the yatris participating in the procession. Thousands of Jammuites thronged the route of the yatra to have glimpses of the traditional Rath which carrying deities of Rama, Lakshamana, Sita and Hanuman. Followed by this Rath there was scores of tableau belonging to the various social and religious organisations depicting lives and teachings of Shri Rama. Thousands of devotees chanting slogans in praise of Lord Rama accompanied the Yatra all the way from Raghunath Mandir to Hari Market. Slogans of Jai Shri Ram rented in the air after repeated intervals. The atmosphere surcharged with religious fervour following the deafening slogans of the devotees. The authorities have made elaborate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident. Additional forces were deployed in the entire route of the Yatra. Besides prominent citizens and political leaders, senior civil and police officials accompanied the yatra. However, the temples of the city witnessed heavy rush today as thousands of the devotees thronged to the temples to perform pooja- archana on this auspicious occasion. Devotees in thousands today visited Bahu Fort to have darshan of the deity of Kali Mata installed in the premises of the Fort. Chanting slogans in praise of Mata, hundreds devotees were seen lined up in the premises of the temple very much before dawn. The police deployed at Bahu- Fort today had very tough time to control the unprecedented rush of the devotees at the Shrine. Meanwhile the nine- day long Navratra festival concluded today with the immersion of Saakh by the people in various rivers. There was a beeline of people at Tawi Ghat, Bikram Chowk who had assembled there to immerse the Saakh in the river. Large number of devotees were seen at Akhnoor ghat to immerse the Saakh. The traffic at Tawi bridge remained paralysed for long time during the day due to heavy rush of people on Tawi Ghat. The temples of the City especially the holy Raghunath Temple was fully decorated on the occasion. Hundreds of the people visited various city temples to perform Pooja there. |
