Workshop on "sensitizing judiciary officials in field of disability" held | | | early times report JAMMU, Mar 31- A one day long awareness-cum-sensitization workshop on "Sensitizing judiciary officials in the field of disability" was held at MIER College of Education here today. The workshop sponsored by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) was inaugurated by Dr J P Singh, Member Secretary, Rehabilitation Council of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The Guests of Honour included BS Slathia President Bar Association, Jammu, Sara Johnson, Chairperson RCI, North Zone Seema Shekher, Former Addl Advocate General, Jammu, Dr Arun K Gupta, Chairman, MIER Group of Institutions, Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER and Dr. Adit Gupta Joint Director MIER. The workshop was attended by more than sixty participants from different institutions of Law from across Jammu city and students of B Ed Special Education including the faculty. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Arun K Gupta, Chairman MIER Group of Institutions stressed the role of Judiciary in upholding and protecting the rights of people. It is in this context that this workshop has been organized specially for the Judiciary officials to sensitize them towards the persons with disabilities and their specific rights, so that they can help them to lead better lives and improve the quality of their existence. He remarked that it is indeed sad to notice that no statistics related to disability is available in the state, facilities for the disabled are meagre and awareness among the masses and the disabled is lacking. Sara Johnson, Chairperson RCI, North Zone, in her introductory remarks, threw light on the multi-pronged and the integrated efforts made by the RCI through the different schemes to enable and empower the disabled to lead a meaningful and dignified life in the society. |
