UP CM bears light for J&K security load shedding | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 31: While UP Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav surprised even his own officials by ordering cut in his fleet of cars as an austerity drive, the unabated misuse of official vehicles in J&K continues without compunction. In the name of security, serving and former bureaucrats, police officers and politicians of all hues and colours continue to maintain fleets of gypsies, bullet proof vehicles, armed guards, SPOs doing all duties other than for which they are deployed. Once it was discovered that a senior police officer was maintaining a vehicle fleet of 35 vehicles most of which used to remain parked inside his official residence. The number of PSOs and SPOs allotted to a so-called VIP are directly proportional to the party he/she belongs to. If a middle rung politicians belongs to the ruling party he/she is immediately upgraded and additional guards are allotted to him. This is absolutely not connected with the threat perception on which normally such allotments should otherwise have been based. Like the young chief minister of UP, it is expected that a lead would be taken by the politicians in power by voluntarily giving up the extra fat by relinquishing the definitely unnecessary and not required number of vehicles, guards and other related paraphernalia from their security make up. If Akhilesh can bring it down from 40 to eight why cannot our ministers, senior bureaucrats, police officers and politicians in both the ruling and opposition parties lead the road to bringing in some relief to the overburdened state exchequer. These included three jammer fitted cars, an ambulance and a fleet of cars of city police and traffic cops. Akhilesh Yadav has also done away with other security regulations such as stopping of traffic when the chief minister's convoy passes and the use of hooters whenever he moves. This should give a cue to the state government. Without compromising the basic security, the pomp and show connected with the VVIP movement which brings life to a halt in areas where VVIP movement is scheduled can be safely dispensed with. |
