1,867 buildings occupied by security forces in J-K: Govt | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 1 : The Jammu and Kashmir government has said that as many as 1,867 buildings in various parts of the state are still occupied by security forces, even as 1,342 such buildings have been vacated by them. "As many as 1,867 buildings are under occupation of the Security Forces in Jammu and Kashmir," state Home Department officials said here. Of these, 1,561 are private houses and 306 are government buildings, they said adding that 567 buildings are under the occupation of Army while 1,300 under the Central para-military forces. They further said that during past 8 years, as many as 1,342 buildings have been vacated from the occupation of forces. Similarly 33 hotels and one cinema hall have also been vacated out of the 79 hotels and 8 cinema halls occupied by the forces, they said. Around 3,209 buildings, including 2,445 private houses and 764 government buildings were earlier occupied by the forces during the period of the militancy in the state, they said. Asserting that the government is making all efforts to get these houses vacated, officials said that a comprehensive progra mme has been devised under the Security Related Expenditure to shift the security forces and police from these houses in a phased manner. |
