Departments given free hand to have their own vehicles against norms | Conspiracies being hatched to Wind up the Motor garages | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 1 : In what could turn out to be the biggest scandal of deliberate ignorance and conspiracy to shut down the state Motor garages, various departments have been allowed to purchase the vehicles clearly in violation of the norms. Sources revealed to KNS that almost three thousand vehicles have been purchased by various state departments throwing the norms into wind." Three thousand vehicles have been purchased during last few years by the departments who were not supposed to do so as per the norms." told some officials of the State Motor garages wishing not to be named.they said that (Financial Code Volume 2nd Appendix 13) of the state Motor garages clearly state that the administrative control on all vehicles in the departments other than Police and Health shall remain with the SMG. However the sources told KNS that SMG has just around 475 vehicles with it and there has been a sharp increasing trend of various departments getting their own departmental vehicle. He blamed that such practice was ruining the State Motor Garages and at the same time giving a free hand to lower rung officers of misusing the official vehicles at their will. Pertinently in the past, Motor Garages would allot a vehicle to the concerned officer along with a designated driver. However now the SMG officers allege that the departments not only are being allowed to have their own vehicles but also make appointments of drivers which otherwise should have been undertaken by SMG.The sources maintained that the practice is being encouraged by some vested interests in the government which would mean a closure of SMG anytime soon. " We have just around 450 vehicles in the garage and the number remains stationary for the last ten years." told the sources. KNS despite many efforts could not get a word from Director Garages . However, Minster for Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon while talking to assured of prompt action in this regard." This is a very important issue and we need to look into it." added Akhoon |
