Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 1: Downplaying factionalism within the J&K unit of Congress Union Minister Ghulma Nabi Azad today ruled out any differences nor any groups within the party at any level and asserted that party is united and is having cordial relations with the alliance partner National Conference. Azad hinted at continuance of ruling dispensation in the present form stating Congress would fulfill its commitment of support for full term to NC made at the time of formation of the coalition government three years back.
Blaming media for spreading speculative stories about groupism in Congress former Chief Minister termed these as unfounded and said most of the newspapers . Dismissing the 'stories' about the fissures, Azad discounted the reason of absence in any function attributed most of time by media to factions and loyalty towards one faction. "It is impossible for all the ministers and leaders to attend all the functions unless it is any major party convention……..I do not approve of all ministers converging in such gatherings for I believe that affects functioning of the government", he observed.
In a show of strength that was demonstrated by the Congress leadership with all ministers of the party and PCC functionaries including those who have been siding with PCC chief Prof Saifuddin Soz, Azad made a loud call for maintaining unity and greasing the wheels of coalition. In what could be seen as largest ever rally after 2008 polls, Congress , led by Azad this time managed to boost the moral of the workers and supporters, majority of whom comprised the state government employees from various departments. What put at rest some whispers in the political corridors for some time, was Azad contending almost in reassuring tone and tenor that Congress would let NC complete full term with its leadership in the steering seat. " We know in any coalition there are differences and compulsions on many counts but we have to forget them for achieving bigger goals….", Azad said. However, NC's absence was conspicuous in the show, with all except its leader Ajat Shatru Singh making it to unveiling of the statue of his grandfather Maharaj Hari Singh .
Dr Karan Singh who arrived late in the afternoon unveiled the statue of his father amid a galaxy of Congress leaders and members of Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha which has been on the forefront of statue unveiling function. Dr Singh showered praises on Azad and termed him as the only Chief Minister who cared to let this project in memory of Maharaja Hari Singh get materialized.
