Azad blames PDP for delay in Park….but where is the Park ….? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 1: In the political fanfare organised today on Ghulab Singh Marg, Congress 'patted' itself for dedicating a Park in the name of Maharaja Hari Singh, last Dogra ruler of the state. Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad blamed it on PDP for the delay in this project. But over three years on after he left the state, there is actually no park, worth its name and meaning at the site where a battery of Congress leaders took pride in 'crediting' the party for doing something big for Jammuites. If Azad took a dig at PDP after over four years, Congress too could not do anything substantial for its further progress in the present regime, only except expediting the fencing and black topping the approach road in last 20 days. In what could be seen as his political bouncer to bash Congress' partner in previous coalition regime PDP, Azad today blamed latter for delay in the Park he had envisaged for Jammuites to relax and breathe in fresh air , a space which people have been craving for during summers. Azad minced no words in saying PDP played 'foul', posed hurdles on many counts and even objected to the idea of creating artificial lake alongside the Park , a project he had mooted during his tenure as Chief Minister. The veteran Congress leader even narrated a story as to how he conceived the idea of this welfare project . He said since the land earmarked for Park was under Flood Control and Irrigation Department, a portfolio which remained with PDP in the previous government, Azad explained his inability of making any forward movement because of what he attributed to ' intentions' of PDP , in not letting this project come up. However, there is no Park in sight at the site where a huge rally was organized today alongside unveiling of a statue of Maharja Hari Singh on Tawi bridge. It is vast area not even fully fenced, barren where there is no sign of greenery , leave aside other facilities and recreational infrastructure that merits any open area to be called as a park. There are no pathways for walkers nor any flower beds and decorative plants that could provide some visual treat to the visitors. There are no pavements nor any benches to sit and relax. What came as rude shock is what Azad claimed about the expenditure incurred on the Park out of a whopping amount of Rs 40 cr realized as revenue from Roshni scheme. The Congress leaders including Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand announced that land has been retrieved , rather transferred from Irrigation Department to JDA which will take care of further development. One only wonders where the funds have been spent so far …. |
