| BJP demands change in State’s Politico-constitutional set up | | | Jammu | Jan 24 The State BJP today demanded a drastic change in the state’s politico-constitutional setup, asserting such a change alone can enable the people of Jammu province to lead a dignified life and have a real and effective say in the political and democratic processes. The demand was made by the party Vice-President & spokesperson Prof. Hari Om while reacting to the startling disclosures made in the state assembly the other day that Jammu province has only eight – Gazetted officers in the Civil Secretariat, as against 191 from Kashmir, and that Jammu province has only 274 non-Gazetted officers and 107 IVth – Class employees in the Civil Secretariat as against 767 non-Gazetted and 256 IVth Class employees from Kashmir, respectively. Prof. Hari Om said that al this shows that Jammu’s share in the Civil Secretariat in Gazetted posts in 4.03 per cent and non-gazetted posts 29.48 percent. He said the neglect of Jammu and Civil Secretariat is just one grievance of the people of Jammu against the State government and that there are similar other innumerable grievances of the people of Jammu against the state government. He said the state government under no situation would permit Jammu to enjoy equal rights with those in Kashmir and, hence, the BJP believes that a modification in the state’s 60 year old unitary structure is the only remedy to the 60 year old problems being faced by the people of the Jammu.
