One more CRPF bunker in downtown Srinagar removed | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 2 : One more bunker of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the downtown in Srinagar was removed today. The bunker on busy Residency road to Nallahmar in the downtown was constructed a decade ago. CRPF spokesman Sudhir Kumar told that a bunker at Chinkral Mohalla on Babdemb road in the downtown was removed today. He said many more bunkers will be removed in the city in near future. Mr Kumar said there are now 23 bunkers left in the city. He said earlier, 39 roadside bunkers, many of them concrete, were removed following improvement in the situation. However, the personnel will remain deployed on roads to foil any militant attack. CRPF constructed several hundreds of bunkers in 90s across the Kashmir valley to foil militant movement and attack on security force and VIP convoys. A number of roads were also thrown open for traffic after about a decade when the bunkers were removed. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has recently hinted that some bunkers in the valley, particularly in the city, would be removed following a drop in the militant violence. |
