Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 2: A day after Union health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad took a dig at PDP alleging that it created hurdles in setting up of Park in Jammu, Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti hit back with equally scathing attack saying that his statement only reflected that he along with other Jammu based leaders nourished fear and apprehensions and were unnerved of increasing popularity of PDP in Jammu.
Speaking to media outside the Assembly Mehbooba termed as unfortunate the statements of Azad contending these were not surprising as he , she alleged, is in the habit of denying having taken decisions taken during his tenure , mostly those which created some controversies. Mehbooba said as Chief Minister of the state it was Azad who first took the decision with regard to transfer of land which created Amarnath land row, later denied his involvement at any stage. "Initially it was he who had taken the decision but later he claimed it was never his decision……..it is quite surprising that what he stated reflects that as Chief Minister he was not able to take any decision…", the PDP chief said.
PDP president said that her party has been able to create some political space in the Jammu region , where other parties have created vacuum. "We have tried to fill in that vacuum……the people of Jammu are now realizing and comparing the development works made during PDP Patron Mufti Moammahd Sayeed's regime in Jammu region and the scene at present. …….people. particularly youth of Jammu are trying to identify themselves with the party leadership ….they feel they are safe in all respects with PDP's policies and programmes..", Mehbooba said adding that it is this affinity towards PDP which is making other parties and leaders uncomfortable. The statement of Azad only shows to what extent Jammu based politicians are unnerved about PDP's popularity in Jammu, she observed.
Earlier inside the Assembly and later while speaking to media, Mehbooba criticized the Chief Minister Omar Abdulla for what she alleged that he was not implementing his own announcements and decisions announcements of which he has been making in the Assembly. " The assembly is fast loosing its credibility as even the assurances given by CM on the floor of house were not implemented at ground level……", Me hbooba said referring to amnesty to stone pelters in Kashmir, which CM declared few days back in the House.
"When we warned of agitation if government failed to give amnesty to stone pelters, he immediately assured in the House that government would withdraw cases against them…..which he had already assured on the eve of Eid festival…but what came as shocking is that just two days after the announcement in the House chargesheet have been produced against many of them", PDP president said. She said because of this people are fast losing faith in the institution of Assembly as well as losing interest in the proceedings. Mehbooba also castigated the government and alleged that it was considering J&K Bank as well as Aukaf as personal property . She further added there was total collapse of the functioning of government as the leaders are involved in scams, including JKCA scam and there is complete waywardness in every sphere as a result of which masses were suffering.
