Rumours mark spring, confusion confounds about summer | | | Bashir Assad
Jammu, Apr 2: If the rumours being spread for last one week or so and the unwarranted show of might (mock drills) exhibited by the police during the same period are any indication, invisibly visible contending forces have started weighing themselves over the speculated situation that is supposed to emerge in the wake of forthcoming summer. From rumours running in Srinagar city about hard-line octogenarian separatist Sayed Ali Geelani's death to the rumours about killing of a youth in Shopaian and militants held in Kulgam caused a lot of panic first in South Kashmir and a day latter in Central Kashmir and one could understand the vulnerability of the situation and at the same time inconsiderateness of the state police which conducted surprising mock drills without any prior intimation to the public. Though rumours about death of Geelani were spread on social networking sites, however, it spread like as fast as fungal diseases in winters. And ironically the state police did chose the same day for conducting mock drills. While the drill was aimed to check the preparedness levels of police to meet any eventuality, it triggered panic across the valley and taking full advantage of chaotic situation, some invisible forces spread rumours and check their preparedness to create confusion and confound the same in the coming days. From unmindful mock drills and the preparedness of the political forces to cash the same to their best, many intriguing questions haunt the average mind in Kashmir after 2011 lull . Would this summer also see bloodshed, violence and mass hysteria? Would we escape the wrath of a monster that kills? Would history repeat itself? And these big questions give an insight to discuss the various prepositions that haunt an average mind in Kashmir. People in general are clueless about the emerging situation. They have seen three years of continues mass hysteria and blood shed from 2008 to 2010 though 2011 was peaceful and definitely one has be apprehensive about the situation. However, this explanation raises one more important question. Are we in charge of our destiny? But the happenings certainly negate this very preposition. The recent bomb blast at Bijbehara in South Kashmir appears as a creepy trailer to events that might occur with the rising mercury! Clouds of fear and uncertainty loom large as even one tragic killing leads to kill hundreds in an ever snowballing unrest that turns out to be essentially useless. In that sense, we are a confused lot and confusion is confounded as we are reeling under an anarchy of circumstances. |
