Counting 10,000 as 90,00 govt masters 'Art of Lies' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu , Apr 2: The government is either living in delusion or believes to have mastered the art of lies. And, these two traits are increasingly becoming hallmark of the government. The traits were once again reflected when advertisement issued by JDA and JMC in local papers on Monday claimed that about ninety-thousand people had addressed a function held on Sunday to unveil the statue of Hari Singh and at a rally addressed by Ghulam Nabi Azad. Even information department had on the same day in press note had said that about 90,000 people were present in the function. According to media reports, estimate by intelligence agencies, and by the most liberal estimate the maximum figure could be put at 10,000. Going by the government, it could be biggest rally ever held in Jammu, surpassing the rallies attended by late prime minister Indira Gandhi, former PM AB Vajpayee and even Sonia Gandhi, where the maximum gathering had been put at not more than 25,000. The park, which was dedicated and where function was held, is spread over 55-kanal. A simple calculation not more than 60,000 seats could be packed, side by side, in such a space without leaving any space for stage, erecting barriers and allowing passage for movement. Interestingly, the government had released these figures when the function itself had started hours after the scheduled time and many people after having waited in hot afternoon had left the venue. The government by releasing these figures had put GN Azad at a much higher pedestal than Cong president Sonia as even during her rallies in the State, the figure could not cross 10,000 that too despite efforts and by bringing people even from Valley for a rally at Jammu. The figures were imagination, rather hallucination, of information department, and under the control of chief minister Omar Abdullah, under whose incharge the department is. It's the same department which had not released any govt advertisement, admitted by the government itself, to Early Times, though passing on the passing to non-descript newspaper which don't hit the stand but are couriered to few department. |
