Willow clefts seized at Samba | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 2: A truckload of 3,000 willow clefts was today seized by police on the national highway at Barian in Samba while the wood was being smuggled to Punjab. Police sources said a truck (JK08A/7335), which was on its way to Punjab, was seized by police at Barian after it was found loaded with 3,000 willow clefts. The truck driver was also arrested. He was identified as Lakhvinder Singh, son of Yashpal Singh of Rajbagh, Kathua. He was booked under sections 3 and 5 of the J&K Willow (Prohibition on Export and Movement) Act 2000, sections 6, 15 and 16 of Forest Act and sections 420 and 34 of RPC. Police were trying to pick up other persons in the case, including the consignment owner M/s New Tantray Sports, Marhama Sangam, Anantnag, for his alleged involvement in the instant smuggling bid. He was alleged to have prepared a fictitious challan in the name of M/s B K Sports, Gangyal, so that the consignment could get a free passage from Anantnag to Gangyal. Investigation revealed that the consignment was to be taken to one Nazir Ahmad Dar, who is running a cricket bat manufacturing unit at Hatli Morh, Kathua, for further sending it to Punjab.
