3rd Rajiv Gandhi Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament gets underway
Simula drubs WCC-B by 7 wkt in inaugural tie

JAMMU,Apr 3: Simula XI thrashed Whites Cricket Club (WCC)-B easily by 7 wickets inthe in augural match of the 3rd Rajiv Gandhi Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament, which got underway at MA Stadium, here today.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, WCC-B managed to score a paltry total of 99 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 9 wickets in the process. Jaggi was the top scorer with 32 runs scored in 27 balls including four fours and one six, while Rohit Koul (10) was the only other batsman to reach double figure mark. Deepak Fotedar and Sanjeev contributed unbeaten 9 and 8 runs to the total respectively. Off-spinner Sameer Khajuria was the wrecker-in-chief for Simula XI, who took 4 wickets by conceding 28 runs inhis 3 overs, while Vivek Thappa scalped 2/10 in his four overs. Vikram, Irshad and Hardeep Singh claimed one wicket apiece. Simula XI chased the target easily in 12 overs by losing 3wickets and won the match by 7 wickets. Gulzar played a superb innings of unbeaten 62 runs in 44 balls including 9 boundaries and two sixes. Dhruv Mahajan contributed well made 21 runs to the total. Deepak took 2 wickets byconceding 28 runs for WCC-B. For his superb knock of 62 runs, Gulzar of Simula Club was adjudged man of the match. The match was officiated by Rajinder Singh and Vijay as umpires, while Sohail acted as the scorer.
Earlier, Vinod Sharma, General Secretary, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in augurated the match in a well attended function, while Narinder Sharma, General Secretary PCC was the Guest of Honour.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dy SP Ranjeet Singh, former skipper Indian Hand ball Team, Rajesh Gill, former Ranji Trophy Player, Ram Pyara, Ex Captain, Yogesh Magotra, former Ranji TrophyPlayer, BK Razdan, Chaman Lal, President Guru Ravi Dass Sabha, Banarasi Dass Digra, All J&K Leather Union President, Surinder Sharma, Youth President and Som Raj, Ward Member Congress.
The tournament in which 22 teams are taking part is being organized by Young Star Cricket Club, under the overall of former Corporator Chaman Lal, Ankush Abrol, Rajesh Dhar, Vikram Singh and Shashi Pal, Organizing Secretary.
