Attempt to recruit Kathua youths in militancy foiled,
Hindu youth, launching incharge of HUJI among four apprehended

A major attempt of Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HUJI) outfit to extend militancy in Kathua District was foiled by Kathua Police with the timely arrest of four Kathua based youth who were on their way to Kishtwar for formally taking up arms. In the eighteen years old history of militancy in J&K State, a Hindu boy was also apprehended from Kathua District for aspiring to become militant. Three other youths including the launching incharge of HUJI in Kathua were also apprehended. All of them were lured with huge cash amount to join active militancy.
According to reports, Police party during a routine naka intercepted a Sumo Jeep plying on Dhar Mahanpur road and apprehended four youths on account of their suspicious movement and looks. During their search, documents having names and addresses of some Kishtwar based people were found from their possession. After thorough verification, it was established that all the persons whose name were mentioned in the documents are active militants of Doda District. The apprehended youths have been identified as Mohd Showkat, son of Saeed Mohd of Nagrota, Mohd Mani, son of Jeela Ahmed of Guru Kalyal, Mohd Makhan, son of Bobi Mohd of Gujjru Nagrota and Dimple Kumar, son of Satpaul Verma of Mukhwal Ramkote all between the age group of 20-25 years.
During sustained questioning, they revealed that Showkat Ali was a launching in charge of HUJI of Kathua District and he motivated the other three to join militancy and lured them by offering huge cash amount. He has also been involved in militant activities in Doda District, where he had acted as informer earlier and guide to militants in Kishtwar. He has already motivated seven boys from Kishtwar area to join militancy during the past 3-4 years. Meanwhile, name of the militants were with held in view of the operation being launched in coordination with Doda police.
