`Omar should not follow Modi on extensions' | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 3: Granting extension to a retiring ` unscrupulous' bureaucrat is a `lifehazard'. This is what the sordid story of a senior IPS officer's wife reveals. Arrested IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt's wife, Shweta Bhatt whose husband, Sanjiv Bhat is in jail for all the wrong reasons has written a letter to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram seeking security for her husband as she fears for his life. She is worried for his safety. She believesthe police shall harm him. She has written that her jailed husband was being harassed at the behest of Ahmadabad police commissioner Sudhir Sinha. The Modi government granted extension to many officers to achieve petty political goals and to hamper administration of justice. She also accused Sinha of misusing the extension in service granted to him, by acting against the Bhatts. The state of Jammu Kashmir has also been granting extension to retiring bureaucrats. The people of the state are also apprehensive like Shewta. An officer who has played his innings must make way for others. This is how things must move. However, an honest and dedicated officer may be asked to contribute in other ways to the society. For that there is no need of creating a fear psychosis especially in a state where the government has been accused of trust deficit and governance deficit. A human rights defender said Omar should not follow Modi on extensions. |
