Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 3: Observing sheer criticism by party's middle rung leaders and cadre at grass root level against sitting ministers having allegiance with him, Congress stalwart and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad may trim wings of some of his loyalists holding important portfolios in the coalition regime here.
"Axe may fall in the forthcoming cabinet reshuffle, on those ministers against whom numerous complaints have been received by Ghulam Nabi Azad as well as party high command," reliable sources in Congress party revealed to ET.
"Even Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad left Jammu on Monday expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of certain ministers belonging to his lobby. Though Azad tried to put a united face while addressing a public rally on Sunday here saying that there are no factions in the party but the deputations that met him on Sunday meeting reflected a different picture," indicated sources and further added that "number of deputations including that of social organizations and party leaders that met Ghulam Nabi Azad here on Sunday evening till late night, prevailing corruption was one of the important issues highlighted before Azad."
Sources in Congress circle (Ghulam Nabi Azad group) further revealed that "keeping in view the unrest among the party leaders and in order to ascertain the factual position at grass root level Ghulam Nabi Azad chose to meet all the deputations in the absence of the Ministers in the coalition. As Azad knew that in the presence of Ministers, he will not be able to get right information and delegates may not be able to speak straight so ensured that no Minister is accompanying him while meeting the deputations."
Even Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, who holds Azad's fort in NC-Congress coalition, was not accompanying Ghulam Nabi Azad at that time.
"Series of complaints pertaining to ignorant attitude of Ministers towards party leaders and cadre also came to light wherein the delegates meeting the senior Congress leader gave number of specific examples of ignoring the wishes of party cadre and extending undue favours only to the blue-eyed persons," revealed sources further adding that "certain party leaders also presented a comparative data how NC leadership is steadily strengthening its base both here in Jammu as well as in Kashmir valley while initiating developmental works as per the desire of its cadre while Congress leaders holding the cabinet berth are watching all such activities as mute spectator thereby indirectly hitting at party's own belly ."
"Before leaving for New Delhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad cleared to his loyalists to mend ways and work for further strengthening the base of party here in the state or face music," shared sources in Azad circle.
