Snow clearance work on full swing at Zojila

Kargil, Apr 4: In order to reopen Kargil Srinagar National Highway for vehicular traffic snow clearance work is on full swing at Zojila pass from Kargil side. Heavy snow cutter machine and Dozers' pressed in to snow clearance work. From Kargil side snow is cleared up to 112 kms . Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan accompanied by Executive Councilor Haji Gh, Amair, Chief Engineer Project Vijyak Col. Hareesh Kumar, SE. PWD Abdul Wahid, SDM Drass and other visited Zojila pass yesterday to take spot inspection of pace of progress on snow clearance work.
Addressing Project Vijyak officers dozers operators and labours at Shatan Nallah Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan appreciated the efforts of project Vijyak being made for early restoration of the national Highway. He said due to the closer of Kargil Srinagar National Highway the only life line of the region the people of the area facing acute storage of essential commodities . He stressed upon them to redouble their effort for early restoration of traffic on this national Highway so that vehicular traffic could restore as soon as possible.
The Chief Executive Councilor also distributed sweets among the operator and Labour and also presented traditional Khataaq to the officers of Project Vijyak.On the occasion Chief Engineer Project Vijyak Col. Hareesh Kumar assured the CEC to complete snow clearance work by 15th April and restore traffic on the Highway. 204 km long Srinagar Kargil National Highway remained closed from December 2011 due to heavy snow fall and snow avalanches at Zojila pass as a resuli road connectivity to entire Ladakh region remain cut off during the period. Enroute various deputation met the CEC assured to solve their graveness at top priority. CEC also convened a officer meeting at Drass and revived the stock position of food grains and availability of essential services.
