| BJP raises Amarnath Yatra issue with Omar | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 5 : BJP on Thursday raised the issue of shortened Amarnath Yatra with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and sought his intervention to prevent any possible controversy in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has reduced the duration of this year's Amarnath pilgrimage to 39 days. The BJP leaders expressed apprehension that the reduced duration of the yatra could emerge as a major controversy in the coming months. They suggested that the chief minister should have a word with Governor NK Vohra on the issue.
A BJP delegation led by its state president Shamsher Singh Manhas also apprised Omar of the party's concern about some of the sensitive issues facing the state. Manhas explained the party's position vis-a-vis the status of seven MLAs whose disqualification from Legislative Assembly had been sought by the party high command.
The delegation also appealed to Omar to look into Sixth Pay Commission issue concerning University Teachers for which Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) is demanding a stipulated grant from the state government. |
