Kajal Suri clinches best female actor award 5th time in State drama festival | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 5 : For the fifth time, well known broadcaster Kajal Suri has been adjudged as the best female actor in the annual drama festival organised by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The results of State drama festival which was held here in Abhinav Theatre recently, were declared yesterday. She clinched this award for the Shivani Cultural Society" play "Poornviram" directed by renowned personality of the state Vikram Sharma. This year, a total of 14 dramas were enacted in the festival in which theatre groups from Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu participated. Kajal Suri, daughter of well known journalist, writer, director, producer, theatrist late Mr. Vijay Suri, performed in Jammu after a gap of 17 years and clinched best female actor award in her come-back play. Prior to this, she received five best actress awards in 1991, 1992, 1994 and 1995 for the plays " Mahanirvan', "Rakhtbeej","Kahan Ho Fakir Chand," and "Ant Nahi' organised by J&KAACL. All the plays were performed by Shivani Cultural Society. She performed in Jammu last in theatre festival in 1995 and moved to Delhi thereafter. Working as Programme Officer in All India Radio, New Delhi since 1996 and a RJ on FM Rainbow India, Kajal Suri earlier received "Sur Aradhana" award in 1996 for her contribution to theatre at Siri Fort auditorium, New Delhi. In 1996 only, she was awarded first prize in Akashwani Annual Awards for producing a feature "Band Kamro Mein Ujle Phool and Certificate of Merit in 2001 Akashwani Annual Awards for the production of feature "Prem Ka Sur Astha Ka Sangeet" on Kashmir's sufi saint poetess Lalleshwari or Lal Ded.She also produced a series of features on other great women of Kashmir including romantic poetess Habba Khatun and river Jhelum. An active member of IPTA (Indian Peoples' Theatre Association), New Delhi, she has participated in north zone theatre festivals and International theatre festivals from time to time. She were also conferred Certificate of appreciation for the play "Aur Ek Sach" in the 7th National Theatre Festival at Punjab Natshala in 2010. |
