Workshop on Bio Medical Waste Management held | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 5 : A day long workshop on 'Bio Medical Waste Management' was organized by the J&K Rural Health Mission in association with Academy of Hospital Administration - Jammu Chapter in the conference hall at Regional Institute of Health and Family Welfare Nagrota, Jammu. The workshop was inaugurated by Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma in presence of Minister of State for Health Javed Ahmad Dar. The workshop was organized with a prime aim to sensitize the Medical Superintendents, Block Medical Officers and owners of private nursing homes of Jammu Division regarding scientific disposal of Bio Medical Waste. Dr Madhu Khullar, Director Health Services Jammu, in her address highlighted the current status regarding generation of Bio Medical Waste and its handling in the health care institutions in Jammu division. Dr Yashpal Sharma, Mission Director NRHM, J&K, gave the current status of Bio Medical Waste Management in the state and stressed upon the importance of segregation of Bio Medical Waste at source of generation which is 10-15% of total waste generation in health care institutes but if it is not segregated properly, the100% hospital waste becomes infectious and shall become source of hazard to health care professionals, patients and their attendants. Sham Lal Sharma in his speech appreciated the efforts of Mission Director and officers/officials of J&K Rural Health Mission for organizing such a workshop.
