| JAKEDA projects reviewed in high level meeting | | | EARLY TMES REPORT
Jammu Apr 6: Secretary to Govt Science & Technology Deptt M.K Dwivedi took a review meeting about the activities/ programmes being implemented in the state by J&K Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) and J&K State Council for S&T working under the administrative control of Science & Technology Deptt.
Chairperson during this meeting discussed the Remote Village Electrification (RVE) programme of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Govt of India in detail and it informed that 35507 solar home lights have been procured under the scheme during the year 2011-12 out of which 29325 households have been covered so far and the balance 6182 households shall be covered by end of April, 2012.
The members were apprised that under Jawahar lal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) programme of the MNRE 20,000 households are being provided solar home lights which takes care of urban areas also besides this the Agency is providing 15,150 solar lanterns to Gujjar & Bakwerwal basties of the state out of which 9495 lanterns have been distributed and the balance 5655 lanterns shall be provided to the eligible beneficiaries by end of this month.
During the last year the Agency has installed 25 Solar Power Plants (SPPs) and 5 Solar Wind Hybrid Systems at different health institutions/other locations of the state and around 180 SPPs are being installed during the year 2012-13.
The Department is shortly coming up with a Solari Wind Power Policy for development of these two sectors at large scale through IPP mode. In addition to this, Solar Water Heating Systems are being promoted on a large scale through market mode at a project cost of around RS.22.00 crores under which the users will have to pay only 40% of the cost of the system to the supplier.
The Secretary, S&T Deptt also reviewed the functioning of J&K State Council for S&T in which all the issues related to the welfare of the employees and development of organization were discussed in detail and necessary instructions were issued to the concerned officers for completing the targets in a time bound manner. The S&T Council Deptt has sanctioned 150 Scholarships at + 1 0, + 12 and PG level for pursuing science subjects besides 9 awards have been sanctioned for innovative science teachers. Three new research projects are being taken up one each at Kashmir University, SKUAST Jammu and SMVDU Katra. The Deptt shall be organizing 8th JK Science Congress in Kashmir University in the month of July, 2012 and 2nd JK Agriculture science Congress shall be organized at SKUAST, Jammu.
The meeting was also attended by D. R. Sharma Special Secretary, Fida Hussain Chief Executive Officer, Arun Kotwal Dy Secretary, Khem Raj FAlCAO, R A Romshoo Deputy Director (P&S), Shiban Ji Koul Executive Engineer, Dr P R Dhar ACEO, Dr M A Bhat Jt Director & Nasir Shah Jt Director besides other officers of the department.
