Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 7 : Threatening to launch massive protests, the All Party Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) said the successive state governments in Jammu and Kashmir have always ignored the members of this minority community. "Despite repeated assurance by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to consider our genuine demands, nothing has been done so far," APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said in a statement today. He said Sikhs living in the state, particularly in Kashmir valley, are now left with no alternative but to take to streets in for their demands. "We are peace loving and have always presented our demands before the successive governments, including present National Conference- Congress government, since 1947 with the hope to get justice," he said and added that nothing has been done. Raina said Sikhs living in Kashmir despite facing all odds, are not demanding moon but just a chance to lead a honourable life. "We demand employment package for the members of the community who had to migrate from their villages to towns because of turmoil," he said. The other demands included issuance of State Subject through Central Authority, Minority Status as per National Commission for Minority Act, filling of Punjabi teacher vacant posts, timely inquiry into killing of 36 Sikhs at Chattisin ghpora and compensation of Agriculture and horticulture losses during turmoil, he added. Mr Raina also said there was still no trace of a Sikh Executive Engineer, who went missing last month from Magarmal area of the city. He warned that Sikhs, who hold key in many assembly constituencies, will vote against the candidates of ruling parties in case their demands were not met. Raina said they will raise the issue at national and international forum. "We have already informed the United Nations Human Rights organisation about the plight of Sikhs in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
