Regularise services of SPOs: Dr. Nirmal Singh
4/7/2012 11:03:18 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 7 : The government should immediately regularise the services of thousands of SPOs through an Act of Parliament. This was stated by BJP National Executive Member & former State President Dr. Nirmal Singh while condemning the attitude of both-the central as well as state government towards these helpless SPOs. Dr. Nirmal Singh said that SPOs under Vilage Defence Committees (VDCs) were instrumental in wiping out militancy in remote and far-flung areas of the state. These SPOs are the real warriors and heros who need appreciation and timely regularisation but the government has never deemed it necessary to even give credit to them, who have during all odds stood like a rock against heavily armed militants equipped with the latest weaponary and explosives. Dr. Nirmal Singh said that the extent of the exploitation of these SPOs can be well judged from the attitude of the government which treats them as policemen when needed in operations but later they are said to be civilians when they ask for fulfiling their genuine demands, including enhancement of monthly emoluments. This is the worst type of exploitation of SPOs, which perhaps exists no where in India or else where.Dr. Singh said that the militant -related activities are still reported from different parts of the state and there is no gurantee as to when will it come to end. In such situation the strengthening of VDCs has become all the more important as the life and property of innocent people can not be left at the mercy of across the borders trained and abetted militants. Dr. Nirmal Singh said that it is indeed unfortunate that many SPOs have not been paid their emoluments for two years and are at the verge of starvation. Their only crime is that they are not relatives of Ministers, MLAs, bureaucrats or associated to the leaders of ruling coalition. He said that the government should shed its policy of hatred against them and initiate process to regu larise their services through an Act of Parliament and brought under the pay scale existing in other para-military forces. Till then they should be given at least rupees 5,000 per month, Dr. Singh added.
